Canby is a city in Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,795 at the 2010 census.
Canby is located mainly in Sections 3 & 4 of Norman Township (T114N R45W). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.20 square miles (5.70 km); 2.19 square miles (5.67 km) is land and 0.01 square miles (0.03 km) is water.
Canby Creek, a tributary of the Lac qui Parle River, flows through the city.
U.S. Highway 75 and Minnesota State Highway 68 are two of the main routes in the city. Minnesota State Highway 67 is in close proximity to the city.
As of the census of 2010, there were 1,795 people, 792 households, and 441 families residing in the city. The population density was 819.6 inhabitants per square mile (316.4/km). There were 892 housing units at an average density of 407.3 per square mile (157.3/km). The racial makeup of the city was 97.9% White, 0.3% African American, 0.1% Native American, 0.3% Asian, 0.8% from other races, and 0.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.4% of the population.
There were 792 households of which 24.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.6% were married couples living together, 6.9% had a female householder with no husband present, 2.1% had a male householder with no wife present, and 44.3% were non-families. 39.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 23.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.11 and the average family size was 2.81.
